storm notice

The Town of Abington is prepared and ready for whatever nature sends our way. The Senior Center is ready and will be open if we have a significant number of residents without power.

Please check the Town of Abington's website at Abingtonma.gov for the most complete information. The Abington Police will have their Community Room available if residents need a place to charge their phones during the storm if they don't have power. The library will also be open for their regular hours on Saturday (10AM-5PM) as long as they have power, so residents can stop by to charge their cell phones, read a book and get a library card.

Please see storm prep suggestions below from the Department of Public Health.

Mass.gov Emergency Preparedness Guidelines outline key steps to stay safe during severe weather and public health emergencies.

• Water: Store at least one gallon of water per person per day for a minimum of three days for drinking and sanitation.

• Food: Keep a three-day supply of non-perishable food, canned goods, and snacks.

• Medical Needs: Have extra supplies of critical medications, first aid items, and specialized medical equipment backups.

• Safety Tools: Prepare flashlights, extra batteries, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, and a whistle.

Home and Personal Safety

• Make a Plan: Write down emergency contact numbers, out-of-town meeting places, and household medical information.

• Protect Your Property: Elevate basement items to prevent flood damage and check that your sump pump is working properly.

• Secure the Exterior: Bring in loose outdoor objects like patio furniture and toys that could blow away in high winds.

• Stay Informed: Monitor local alerts through official channels and review Mass.gov Winter Storm Safety Tips for post-storm recovery guidelines.

Please stay safe and do not touch downed wires.
