Park and Recreation

Overview

The Abington Park and Recreation Department is committed to elevating quality of life through the promotion, development, and maintenance of public recreation and enrichment opportunities, park lands and related facilities. If at any time we do not meet our obligation of providing quality programs and facilities and you feel there is a problem with our service, the Park and Recreation Department will work with you to make it right.

With current resources, Abington Recreation holds the vast majority of programs only during the summer months. Detailed program information is typically released in late March when registration opens. However, general information can be found below under “Standard Summer Programs”. Our goal is to provide a range of programs during those months to speak to all ages and interests. If you have a program idea or need, please reach out at any time.  We value the thoughts of Abington residents in ensuring our programs align with the interests of our community.

The Abington Park and Recreation Department is part of the town's Department of Public Works. It also overseas Abington's Island Grove sand bottom pool. It is responsible for authorizing permits for town fields.

The Eager Beaver Program is designed to provide a wide range of recreational experiences for the youth of Abington at a minimum cost. Each two-week session provides various activities that will culminate on the second Friday of each session, so in essence each session will be somewhat different than the others.

The Eager Beaver Program will be based at Island Grove, but will utilize many of the various facilities around the town, in order to provide a broad scope of experiences.

Registration for Eager Beaver opens in March for Abington residents. To learn more and register use our My Rec Page.

Island Grove

Island Grove is a historical location which is a hub of activity for residents especially throughout the summer. The Grove can be accessed via Park Street which has ample on street parking or by Wilson Place.
