What is happening?
MassDOT is hosting an in-person design public hearing to discuss the proposed safety and operational Intersection Improvements at Hancock Street and Chestnut Street in Abington, where there has been significant crash history. MassDOT welcomes your input for consideration in the design process.
How will this affect you?
As a result of the Town's public process, where the design of a modern single-lane roundabout received overwhelming public support, the proposed roundabout design will be presented. The roundabout is anticipated to reduce vehicle speeds and conflict points as well as reduce delays and idling time. Pedestrians will have a shorter crossing distance as well as refuge areas to cross one directional lane of traffic at a time. Shared use accommodations consisting of a wide outside travel lane with shared lane markings have been provided in accordance with applicable design guides.
