SPECIAL ELECTION FAQS

Why is the Special Town Election on September 21 and not on September 3, the State Primary Election Day?

There are several reasons why the elections will take place on separate voting dates.

  • The Special Town Election ballots cannot be combined with the State Primary Ballots.

  • The Town wants to give ample time for prospective candidates to complete their nomination papers.

  • The use of mail in voting continues to increase. To ensure every ballot is properly handled, a separate voting day for the Town Special Election was deemed more appropriate.

Why are the hours reduced for the Special Town Election?

To help reduce staffing expenses of an already busy election year, it was decided the poll hours would be condensed to 8AM - 4PM. In past elections, a majority of voters utilized early and mail-in voting options. Those who do vote in-person tend to vote earlier in the day.
