Abington’s $1.2 million waste hauling costs need to be addressed. The Town's waste hauling costs have increased 56% between FY18 and FY24.
At the 2025 Annual Town Meeting on Monday, April 7, 2025 attendees will be asked to vote on a Trash User Fee. If approved, the town's trash services will transition from taxpayer-funded waste hauling to an annual user fee system, with phased a implementation over four years. The proposal includes a reduced fee for senior residents who are 70 years old and older. Visit our webpage for more detailed information on the proposal.
This is an URGENT budgetary issue. Due to the drastic rising costs of solid waste disposal and the collapse of the international recycling markets, Abington’s trash costs require urgent attention in 2025 or serious cuts will need to be made in other services areas.
Abington's Town Manager Scott Lambiase will be holding an Open House on March 26, 2025 at the Abington Senior Center to discuss the proposal and answer residents' questions. Residents are encouraged to drop in any time between 6 - 8PM.
