Evidentiary Search Conducted

On Friday, August 9th 2024 at approximately 2:25 A.M., the Abington Police Department (APD) responded to the area of Island Grove Park, and Park Avenue on information provided by the Milford Police in reference to a firearm that was reportedly dropped by a suspect that they had in custody for an alleged armed robbery and shooting in Lowell on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024. Information provided to APD, by Milford Police indicated that the suspect allegedly dropped the firearm on Wednesday, August 7th, at or around 11 P.M. in Island Grove Park, however further details provided by the suspect indicated other possible locations included Weymouth and Upton.

APD, along with K9 Harlow conducted a preliminary search of the area as described and by Milford Police and the suspect. That search resulted in negative findings. Due to the poor lighting and weather conditions at that time, APD secured the area until daylight hours to further the search.

Multiple personnel from the Abington, Rockland, Holbrook, and Weymouth Police Departments, along with outside K9 resources and assets from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (METROLEC) Search Teams, and Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene, and conducted numerous and repetitive searches of the Island Grove area which resulted in negative findings.

Island Grove and Park Avenue have reopened, and as a reminder to the public, anytime you see or find something that looks dangerous, or suspicious, do not touch it, and contact your local police immediately. If you See Something, Say Something!

APD appreciates the publics patience and understanding, as well the Abington Fire Department for their support and resources today.
