Arrests Made following Shoplifting Incident

On Saturday, November 16th , 2024, at approximately 8:20 p.m., an Abington Police officer on patrol of Walmart, located at 777 Brockton Avenue in Abington, was alerted by a store employee of shoplifting that had just occurred, where two suspects fled from a side door near the Garden Center and entered a motor vehicle in the parking lot.

The officer observed the vehicle fleeing quickly from the parking lot onto Brockton Avenue. Following a short vehicle pursuit, the vehicle was stopped on Mahoney Circle in Abington at which time a third, and unidentified male suspect fled the motor vehicle on foot. An extensive search of the area was made; however, the suspect was not apprehended.

During the investigation, officers recovered a large amount of stolen merchandise from the vehicle.

The operator and a second occupant of the motor vehicle were arrested on scene. Please note, all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Jeremy Starks, age 43 of Brockton was arrested for the following charges:

- Operating to Endanger
- Failure to Stop or Obey Police Officer
- Speeding
- Conspiracy
- Larceny over $1,200.00
- Possession of Class B Controlled Substance

Jose DePina, age 41 of Brockton was arrested for the following charges:

- Larceny over $1,200.00
- Conspiracy
- Possession of Class B Controlled Substance

The suspects, along with a fourth unidentified male are also suspects in a shoplifting incident in Canton earlier this date.

The Abington Police wishes to thank the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, Rockland and Whitman Police Departments for their assistance with the incident and investigation.
